Sajjad Anwar is a cartographer and programmer based in Bangalore, India. He hearts maps and often makes one. Most often, he is found in the company of other technologists, social activists and researchers in education, human rights and policy making.
Currently, he is leading development and strategy at Development Seed on making open data and tools more accessible to governments and institutions, and working closely with OpenStreetMap. Previously, he was at Mapbox - building the foundation of their operations in Bangalore, setting up the Data team, and building data processing and productivity tools.
Earlier, Sajjad helped build and maintain the data and geographic infrastructure at the Karnataka Learning Partnership, incubated at the Akshara Foundation. He was part of the team who is building a collaborative mapping platform for monitoring REDD+ forests and natural resource extraction in Democratic Republic of Congo.
He was working with the Azim Premji University, HasGeek, Tactical Technology Collective and Center for Internet and Society on several data and visualisation projects.
He enjoys running workshops and speaking at conferences on topics of data, mapping and story telling.
